      AMAU is the Acute Medical Assessment Unit. MAU is the Medical Assessment Unit. AAU is the Acute Assessment Unit.

      These departments are not part of the emergency department but they interact closely with it. Patients can be prioritised for investigations or review by medicine or other specialties, or occasionally for treatment/stabilisation of treatment.
